Digitization

Heroes of the Past offers digitization of 8mm, super 8mm, 35mm slide and negatives and video cassettes, including smaller camcorder cassettes, to digital medium.  We can also scan photographs and digitize those as well. Digitized files can be returned to you on either a flash drive or DVD.  This basic service does not include cleaning excessively dirty film, splicing film, repairing video cassettes, or any other maintenance. Fees for these services are as follows:

  • 8mm or super 8 mm movies       3″ reel – $15      5″ reel – $30      7″ reel – $70
    • Note – all 8 mm and super 8 mm movies were processed as 3″ reels.  Often these smaller reels were spliced together by the customer for their convenience.  A 5″ reel is actually 4 – 3″ reels spliced together.  Over time, these spices get brittle and may  break during the digitization process.  We expect this to happen once or twice per reel, but excessive splicing will incur a charge of $45 per hour for film repair.
  • Video cassettes or most camcorder cassettes      $20
  • 35mm slide or negatives or scanning and digitizing photographs      $20 for the first 40, after that 50¢ each
  • Digital storage to be delivered to customer      Flash drive – $5      DVD – $10
  • Editing digital files (cutting out blank spots, organizing digital clips into similar subjects, splicing digitized reels into one digital movie) or cleaning excessively dirty film – $45 per hour
    Note:
  • We cannot make what you bring us clearer, give it brighter colors, bring it back into focus or move Aunt Gladys out of the picture.  We simply digitize what you give us.
  • We do not do complicated repairs.  If its something simple, we can handle that, but if your cassette is broken or your film is in pieces in a box, sorry, we cannot help.
